A moment without a second job

An ordinary conversation deserves more than the attention left over from everything else.

It is possible to be in a conversation while mentally dealing with several other things. The other person receives the nods. Everything else receives the attention.

I can notice that and return. Put the phone aside, ask about what I missed and listen to the answer. Being present does not require an impressive setting or a perfectly quiet mind. It asks me to stop making this moment share its space with every unfinished task. The next ten minutes might be ordinary. They still belong to the person I am spending them with.
